OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Acknowledgement of Risk and Assumption of Personal Responsibility
Art Omi staff members make every effort to conduct safe programs, to orient and support children, and to inform families of inherent risks. Some activities may involve risks that children do not routinely encounter at home. Risk management is an essential element of all the activities offered. While we anticipate that these efforts will ensure the well-being of each child, we are also aware that it is neither possible to foresee every contingency nor to eliminate all risk.
Elements of Nature
Outdoor exploration is an integral part of Camp Omi and Artgarten. These program includes outdoor activities that expose children to risks including but not limited to sun, ticks, and insects. Children should arrive at camp with applies sunscreen and insect repellent and, with your permission, Camp Omi and Artgarten staff will assist with reapplication of products you send with your child. Camp occurs rain or shine, except in the case of extreme weather (flooding, hurricane, high heat index). We plan for swimming every day unless it is unsafe. Our Aquatics Director will not permit children to enter the pool if there is thunder, lightning, excessive rain, or if chlorine levels are insufficient. Parents will be notified of any changes to the drop-off/pick-up schedule due to weather.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Art Omi believes that exposure to diverse creative voices fosters respect, raises awareness, inspires innovation, and ignites change. Art Omi is a safe space where all children are encouraged to express themselves freely. One of the ways we do this is by inviting children to share their pronouns. We describe pronouns to children as the word that stands in for your name (she/he/they) and explain that because you can't tell someone's pronouns just by looking at them, we ask. Like any time we share in small groups at camp, children can always "pass" and we are respectful of that choice as well.
Our projects and curriculum are inspired by the contemporary art and architecture on site at Art Omi. Our staff is trained in using age-appropriate language and techniques to discuss the different ways in which artists express themselves. We encourage children to ask questions and are respectful of each individual's ideas and perspectives.
We welcome 1:1 aids for children with disabilities and learning differences. Please contact us directly at education@artomi.org to learn more about on-site accessibility, having your child join us with a 1:1 aid, special accommodations, and to discuss any other questions you may have about accessibility and inclusion.
